Hawksview Drainage Rehabilitation - Riverina Hwy
Client: Transport for NSW
The project involved the rehabilitation and upgrade of drainage infrastructure along a 500-metre section of the Riverina Highway (HW20). These works were carried out to improve stormwater flow, protect pavement integrity, and enhance road user safety. Key preparatory activities included site assessment, risk identification, and securing excavation and traffic permits in accordance with TfNSW requirements. Identification and verification of underground utilities were also completed prior to excavation to ensure safe operations.
Construction Works and Quality Assurance
The drainage rehabilitation works included the removal of redundant Megaflow and damaged trench drains, installation of 100 mm perforated plastic subsoil drainage pipes, and placement of gabion baskets and mattresses with geotextile liners and surcharge grates. Rock-lined channels were extended to strengthen stormwater management, with approved Traffic Management Plans (TMP) and Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGS) implemented to reduce speeds from 80 km/h to 40 km/h and maintain worksite safety. The project concluded with the reinstatement of all affected areas and final quality assurance inspections to confirm compliance with TfNSW drainage standards (TS 03260.1, R55).
